This month's instructor is Corey Holmes, MFA. Corey is the Director of Education at the Wayne.
Laban Movement Analysis is a "movement filter" that can easily be applied to either analyze the dynamics of a scene or enhance elements of character and relationship in a theatrical work. It is a safe way to implement character development externally-making it accessible for performers of all backgrounds. Secondarily it can be used to observe how the quality and quantity of movements feed into the way we understand physical conditions, environments, cultural issues, and communication between bodies. Laban brings subconscious awareness to the forefront, gives us a vocabulary to define kinds of movement, to stimulate the imagination, help find natural affinities or lack of affinity (a ‘baseline’) within ourselves versus that of a character, and more (and she also plays well with other acting methods performers and directors may already be using-the "salt" of the performance filters/methodologies). Please come dressed to move, prepared to let me know your movement limits (when and if they occur), and with one line of text.

Silk Moth Stage produces place-based community events with new and under-produced plays at the center. Our productions are artist-centered and audience-connected. By creating a broader experience around the play, we hope to stretch the public’s conception of theater-going and reach beyond a typical theater audience.
We invite people to reconsider what a theater experience can be.
