Presented by Aili Huber, Artistic Director, Silk Moth Stage
How, exactly, does one "suit the action to the word, the word to the action"? In this active workshop, drawing from Annie Murphy Paul's The Extended Mind, Scott Kaiser's Mastering Shakespeare (this is not a Shakespeare workshop), and Aili's own experimentation, we will work on tools including operative words, gestural paraphrase, and physicalizing cognition to make the line between action and word seamless.
These tools also help with specificity and memorization.
Participants should bring ~1 minute of text, on paper, and a pencil. The text does not need to be memorized, but it is helpful if it is active—trying to make something happen, rather than telling a story.
When: March 15, 7:15-10:15 PM
Where: The White Box Studio (2 N Main St, Harrisonburg)
Who: Studio sessions are only for actors who have performed in past staged readings or full productions, or who are cast in our current season
Silk Moth Stage produces place-based community events with new and under-produced plays at the center. Our productions are artist-centered and audience-connected. By creating a broader experience around the play, we hope to stretch the public’s conception of theater-going and reach beyond a typical theater audience.
We invite people to reconsider what a theater experience can be.
